About a few years ago, I decided to follow my passion of aesthetics and apply to school to become an esthetician. I was over the moon with excitement to start learning about all of the ways to help people achieve healthy skin. When I got my syllabus, I saw that I would be learning about a wide range of topics, including anatomy, chemistry, nutrition, facials, hair removal, and so much more. I was amazed to learn that my school also offered weekly clinics, which meant I would be able to get hands-on practice with live models.

Shortly after starting school, I stumbled upon Rêvée Medical Aesthetics by delivering an Instacart order to the practice. As soon as I walked through the doors, I was blown away by the beautiful, bubbly faces that met me. Not only were the staff helpful and kind, but they oozed a confidence and professionalism that tickled something in me I just couldn’t shake. It felt safe and productive - a place where lives were being changed in a positive way. Exactly what I was looking for.
As soon as I left the building, I headed home to apply to become a Guest Relations Coordinator at Rêvée. Within a few short weeks, I was in. By complete chance, I walked right into a job that would set the tone for my upcoming career as an esthetician. I had fully emerged myself into the world of aesthetics. During the day I would be working to help patients have an outstanding experience with their aesthetic treatments at Rêvée, and at night I would be learning about those treatments at school, or so I thought.
Shortly after beginning my journey at Rêvée, I realized that it differed in many ways from what I was doing at school. At Rêvée, the treatments were more advanced and the products being used were more efficacious. I noticed that the patients at Rêvée were ending up with better results in their skin than the models I had been working with for months at school. It seemed like at school I was learning the proper way to perform facials and other basic treatments, but at Rêvée I was learning about the treatments that produce real changes in the skin.
While I was loving my experience at school, I knew that when I graduated and obtained my license I would want to focus on results driven treatments. To do this, I knew I would have to start taking the basic knowledge I had gained from school and begin to hone in on learning more from the professionals in the field that I was surrounded by every day at Rêvée. I began asking every question that came to mind.
I started to learn that the reason I was seeing our patients at Rêvée having better results was because they were getting more advanced treatments. On top of that, a lot of patients were doing multiple sessions of the same treatments to get the best outcome. Patients were getting treatments like Microneedling to help heal acne scars and induce the production of collagen, BBLs to treat pigmentation in the skin, and HydraFacials to clear pores and brighten the skin.
School was giving me the foundation to perform facials, hair removal, and body treatments. Though, Rêvée was giving me a chance to see services that treat skin conditions like rosacea, acne, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. You always hear that with skin care, consistency is key. While that is 100% true, it is also important that the treatment or product you are being consistent with is designed to tackle the condition you are looking to treat.
In addition to the treatments being more advanced, I also noticed that the products the esthetician’s were using and recommending to patients at Rêvée was more effective than what I was using at school. While the products I was using at school weren’t bad, they just weren’t designed to treat a lot of common conditions. Rêvée was offering professional grade products that were made with more potent active ingredients that are able to penetrate deeper into the skin. This meant that they were able to produce more changes within the skin.
Having the opportunity to work at Rêvée while also being an esthetician student allowed me to see how broad the field of aesthetics really is. I have been able to see what I have learned in school applied in the real world of aesthetics and gained more knowledge beyond just the foundations. School gave me the ability to learn the basic skills and knowledge I will need as an esthetician. Rêvée gave me the ability to see treatments and products that produce changes in the skin in action. I believe that because I have had the opportunity to learn about the field of aesthetics from multiple different angles, I will be able to walk into my career as an esthetician more prepared and knowledgeable than I could have even imagined.
